Aircraft Noise Reports

Address potential Aircraft Noise issues early in the design stage of your project

We are constantly surrounded by noise from a variety of sources including neighbouring homes, machinery and traffic, not forgetting aircraft noise. The impact of aircraft noise should not be underestimated. Aircraft noise can affect human comfort and well-being with the impact ranging from levels of annoyance to a measurable impact on health and lifestyle.

Aircraft noise is an inevitable by-product of aircraft operations. In Australia, there are a range of legislative and other controls to manage the impact of aircraft noise. AS2021 provides an assessment of potential aircraft noise exposure around airports based on the Australian Noise Exposure Forecast (ANEF) system and is widely referred to in guiding strategic land use planning in the vicinity of airports.

This is why aircraft noise reports are a requirement for new builds and renovated houses, units, duplexes and dwellings constructed near airports where aircraft noise intrusion may be a problem.

JTA’s qualified Acoustic Consultants conduct AS2021 aircraft noise reports which take into consideration:

Range of noise information relevant to local community
Location of flight paths
Numbers of aircraft
Timing of aircraft movements
Intensity of noise events from aircraft movements

If you are thinking of moving into an area near an airport, it is important to understand how aircraft noise could affect you. Not everybody is affected by noise in the same way. How aircraft noise may affect you personally will depend upon many things.

If your property is located in an area in close proximity to an airport, then there can be zoning and development restrictions placed on your land. This protects against inappropriate or low structural quality development being built in areas most likely to be affected by aircraft noise.

The extent to which you can subdivide your property may also be affected. In some cases you may find there is a notification on your land title, which is intended to forewarn future purchasers about the likely presence of aircraft noise. Conditions such as noise insulation may also be a requirement of planning approval.

JTA’s team of acoustic consultants service all Australian cities including Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Hobart, also now servicing New Zealand.
