Asbestos Clearance Inspections and Certificates

Asbestos Clearance Inspections and Certificates

An asbestos clearance inspection and certificate are important parts of a larger asbestos management plan for an organisation. They are usually conducted after a licenced asbestos removal has been completed, to make sure that the site is safe for use.

An inspection includes a visual investigation and possible air monitoring. If the inspector decides that the area is safe for reoccupation, they then write up an asbestos clearance certificate.

Who Can Conduct an Asbestos Clearance Inspection?

This depends on the nature of the asbestos removal work. Depending on the type of asbestos present and the size of the affected area, the removal work requires either a Class A or Class B asbestos removal licence.

In turn, either an independent licensed asbestos assessor or an independent competent person can carry out the inspection and issue the asbestos clearance certificate, depending on whether the asbestos is categorised as Class A or Class B.
