Most Australian office employees spend more than 80% of their time indoors. It is extremely important therefore that buildings cater to their occupants by providing suitable indoor air quality.
Employers, building owners and managers are responsible for providing a healthy and safe working environment for all staff which includes those working within an indoor office environment.
The assessment of the indoor office environment and prevention of “sick building syndrome” is an aspect of occupational health and safety receiving increasing attention. A large array of chemical, biological and physical factors can affect the quality of the indoor office environment.
It is important that the correct assessment strategy is used for testing indoor air quality and all relevant parameters are analysed. Collected data must also be accurately interpreted. The Noise Awareness Training was an eye opener. The presenter showed us great tricks on how to wear our PPE properly, explaining that hearing loss is serious and irreversible, causing other health issues. We really enjoyed it, and already see a positive workplace behaviour change.
